Day 1 : Pékin -Urumqi
Night flight to Urumqi. After your arrival you will be picked up by local guide and drive to your hotel downtown.

Day 2 : Urumchi-Altay-BurjiniJiadengyu
Morning flight to Altay. Then you drive 110km (1.5 hours) to Burjin. During the drive we will have a chance to see the Black Aerolites Hill, Altai grassland, Ertish River - China's only river that runs into the Arctic Ocean. After lunch we will explore Wucaitan (Colored Landscape) , a geographic zone of variegated hillocks beside the Ertish River in contrast with luxuriant forests, located near Burjin town. During the scenic drive to Jiadengyu, you’ll travel along the fabled Altay Mountain Parkway, reputed to be one of the most dramatically beautiful roads in Sinkiang.

Day 3 : Jiadengyu-Camp A
We meet our horses in Jiadengyu Village. The local guide will take care that the villagers will provide us with the best horses available. The moment we start our journey on foot or on horseback, you will enjoy the impressive scenery that never reveals itself to tourists. There is a small mountain pass, about 1570m, right after starting from the Kazakh yurts at JiaDengYu. It is quite a steep uphill climb here. After this pass, it is down-slope all the way to the ticketing office (entrance to area of HeMu) beside the river. After you crossed the wooden bridge, turn right & follow the trail alongside the river on its left bank. There is a long & gentle stretch of upslope before you descend again. After 4km we will be traveling along River Kanas until we reach the delta where River Kanas joins River Hemu, where we will camp 2.5km north of it.

Day 4 : Camp A-Hemu Village
Today we will have easy trek. The gradient is almost flat & mainly downhill. Walking in the flat and broad valley, we will come across forests and grassland. There is a split-junction, take the right path & follow close to the river. This part of the trail is still mostly bare & un-shaded. A good lunch spot would be somewhere close to the stream near the pine tree forest, after you descend a steep slope. A little bridge shows us the way to Hemu Village.  Hemu Village is inhabited by Mongols, Kazak and Tuwa people. Some scholars hold the view that Tuwa people are offspring of the old, weak, sick and disabled soldiers left by Genghis Khan when he led his troops to attack the West. But Tuwa elders say that their ancestors migrated from Siberia 500 years ago, and that they are the same ethnic group as the Tuwa people of the Tuwa Republic of Russia. The village is surrounded by mountains with poplar and birch trees on the outskirt. At dinner time, you will see nomads herd their animals back home and smoke rising from kitchen chimneys. The village is rarely known to most travelers, fortunately in this way it could preserve its old way of life.

Day 5 : Hemu Village-Black Lake-Camp B
We recommend you to get up early as you do not want to miss the opportunity to take a few pictures of the sunrise over this the misty valley. Today is the toughest day of the trek. The trail continues uphill all the way towards the high-pass. It takes about 2hr to reach this high-pass. Continue along the trail, up the valley with the river on your left. There is long stretch of rocks along the bank. This is a good place for lunch as water is easily accessible. The trail ascends further and the view here is beautiful: carpet-like grass, birch trees, yurts & small wooden huts. You should see a rocky mountain face on your right. The path starts to ascend more steeply as we get closer to the Black Lake. The surrounding snowcapped mountains throw a shadow on the water, hence the name "Black Lake". You will witness a fascinating sunset in this unique place. There is a place to stay for the night beside the Black Lake. However, avoid the area immediately after the high-pass as the grounds are damp due to the many streams flowing through.

Day 6 : Camp B-Black Lake-Kanas Lake
This part of the trek is relatively easy; mostly gentle down slopes. You will come to a depression about 1 hr from the Black Lake. Cross the stream that runs through it. Continue trekking in the west direction & you will arrive at a high-point where you can overlook the flat plains far ahead. There are several yurts below, & this is a nice place to have lunch. Follow the trail down the steppes and climb up the side of the mountain on your right. Here, you can see Thousand Lakes from the top. This stretch is scenic & you will also pass several Tuwa villages along the way. Continue your trek through a nice stretch of pine trees to arrive at a high-point. Pass this point & you will see a turquoise lake to your right. Lake Kanas - a great alpine lake located in a beautiful valley.

Day 7 : Kanas Lake-Burjin-Altay
In the morning you can get a spectacular bird's eye view of Lake Kanas on top of the hill. Capture some pictures of the sunrise before we head back to Burjin.  You will drive amidst the Moon Bay, Dragon Bay, Fairy Bay, impressive scenery, forests, lakes and mountains to Altay city.

Day 8 : Altay-Urumqi -Pékin
Morning flight to your next destination Pékin via a flight Urumqi.
